New 450 Build

Postby armyturner » Thu Jun 30, 2011 9:02 am

I am getting ready to start a new 450 build from the ground up. My receiver set came in yesterday, so now I am only waiting on the bolt, a crush washer, and a gas tube roll pin. I have enough parts to get started though. I have not decided on optics yet. It is a toss up between an Aimpoint and a lower power scope. Here is a list of some of the parts that I will be using.

MEGA Billet GTR-3H Lower
MEGA Billet Heavy Duty Slickside Upper
MEGA Billet Charging Handle
MEGA Hogue grip
Bushmaster Barrel and Bolt
Larue 7.0 Rail System
VLTOR Modstock
Palmetto LPK (trigger upgrade will come later)

Great start! BTW, where are you getting the 450b BCG from? I've emailed Bushy twice, with no response, as usual, about getting a 450b BCG from them...hope you have better luck. (I've emailed them six or seven times in the last couple months, and have yet to get a response of any kind). Post pics when done! :)

The bolts and barrels came from MGI. I called Bushmaster and got the feeling that I would be waiting for a long time if I ordered from them.

The roll pin you can find at Midway, but the only place I have found the crushwasher is from Bushmaster it's a different washer from the 5.56 and 308. It has it's own part #. As for the bolt.....I hope you don't have to wait for Freedom Group....

I just checked MGI, and the bolts seem to be in stock. For the crush washer, maybe the gunsmith crowd has access to different sizes of washers? Could you use a peel washer?

I just got off the phone with MGI. The lady on the phone said she is hoping to have bolts and barrels in 3-6 weeks.

I ordered the last couple of bolts that MGI had on Wednesday. I would think that someone has to carry the washers. I would think it would be about the same as the ones used on the 458s and 50s, not sure though.

I ran into my first hiccup this evening. I assembled the lower and thought I would mock up the barrel. I found out that the shape of the upper prevents the use of the Larue rail system. The lock ring can't be installed. Guess it is time to start looking for something else.
