.450bush suppressed with a .45 pistol can

Postby kakend » Sun Aug 28, 2011 2:48 pm

Hello guys,
I have been toying with the idea of buying a can just because, but in my search I started to find people using .308 cans on .223s well could you use a .45 pistol can on a .450 and .308? And then down to a .223? For that matter just buy a .50 can and suppress a .22lr? Any problems with my logic?

Have a great day guys!

Suppressor cans have some surprisingly complex engineering built into them...I would sure talk to the manufacturer before using one on an "off label" caliber, especially if it is a more powerful round than the can is intended for.

Best case? It would work, but would be terribly inefficient and not worth risking the worst case scenario.

Worst case? You destroy your shiny new can after just a few rounds of a much higher pressure cartridge than the suppressor was designed for.

Either way, post pics. ;)

And for those of us adrenalin junkies, a video would be cool.

I wouldn't use a pistol caliber can. In my research for the 300 Whisper I noticed that quite a few people were using 9mm cans for subsonic loads, but they were quick to mention that was only for subsonic and not to use supersonic loads. If you want to get a can for your 450, make sure it is rated for the caliber.
