I'm glad you recognize what 'Yote' refers to. Hunting predators (especially 'yotes) is about my favorite type of hunting.
Although not far behind are those wild turkeys. Just love calling all kinds of animals into shooting range with a mouth blown call.
One thing I learned while reading about the wild turkey is that the gobblers in the spring are basically surplus animals. The survival of gobblers is not important to the survival of their species as long as the hunting season occurs after the hens have been fertilized. Hence the limited spring season for hunting Gould's even while the population becomes established.
Haven't hunted the Gould's myself. Will be after the Merriam's this month with two tags for adults and two tags for kids. Will report back if able to bag any. Won't be with a 450 though since our season is limited to shotguns shooting shot.
