Somewhere at the Calguns thread someone did a comparisons of the velocities from a 20" and a 16" and I think the difference was about 100 fps. With that loss of velocity with the short barrel you get a more compact rifle and if you are using a scope you don't need the benefit of the longer sight radius you get with a 20" barrel.

Personally, I think the 450b is perfect match with a carbine length rifle.

I was working a trade on a 20", seeing it's just going to be a bench blaster, I figured the 4" difference wouldn't be squat for me.

If I was going new, I'd probaly op for the 16".

Have to see how the cards play out.

:D Just received an email from BM. The 20" upper I ordered is in a Fedex truck  finally! I have 2 cases of Hornady ammo to burn up ;)
...and I've been reloading for it for 30 days now

I have used both the 20" and 16" uppers and I found that the 16" version is far handier, especially out in the boonies.

The 20" version still uses a 16" gas system, so it actually has "two" gas blocks on it, the primary working gasblock is a trimmed down version that fits under the handguard and the front one is simply there for the sights.

I ordered my 16" upper with the trimmed down FSB/gasblock and a full length rifle tubular aluminum handguard and then cut down the tube to a mid-length and added a top rail before DuraCoating.

Quickload tells me that an inch of barrel is worth about 20 fps in the .450B going from 16" to 20" of barrel length, using LilGun under the 250 grain FTX. And it's progressive. You only lose 38 fps going from own from 20" to 18", while you lose 44 fps from 18" to 16". I'm happy to give up the 80fps to save 4" of barrel.

I have a 20" as well but have been looking at going 16". I just called Bushy today and they have barrel alone around $185 and three piece set ( Barrel/flash hider, gas block/tube, and handguard) for $389ish IIRC. I will probablly just get the barrel alone as I have plenty of handguards and gasblocks around from my m4 and will just reuse the gastube and upper reciever. Boy I really would like to see one of these in a 10.5" SBR.
