I bought a single shot cva scout in 44 mag for 325.00 the gun worked flawlessly and was amazingly accurate. I immediately called cva and begged them to make a 450 version. They again are inexpensive and very accurate! Let's bug them!!!!

I don't wanna be a thread hi-jacker but the Scout in 44mag has had my attention for a while now. What sort of accuracy/performance has it given you?

Reply for CEO link within Ruger:

Dear Mr. Grove,

More are coming (and that shop will ship them), plus there will be a regular catalog version in 2017 available to all retailers.

Best regards,
Mike

Yeah, well...back to the good news that Ruger is going to put the 450b American in their catalog for 2017: Smart move, Ruger persons! :)

In that regard, I just sent an email to Hornady referencing this thread and the news from Ruger. I suggested to them that if they wanted to get in on this party, and make some $$$, they should expand their 450b loaded ammo offerings by adding a 275gr GMX bullet "Full Boar" loading (why did they pass on this the first time???) and also a 200gr FTX bullet loading at higher velocity. I think those would make a nice range of choices for those using factory ammo, when added to the current 250gr FTX load.

Side peeve: Hornady is the frickin' originator of the 450b "Thumper" cartridge...its a sledge hammer on hogs at typical ranges. Why the heck did they decide to leave it out of their "Full Boar" line of cartridges, yet they included Uncle Sam's squirrel rifle .223 with a 50gr slug??? Wassup wit dat??? Mystery to me...

even their 250gr Monoflex ML bullet be a nice offering, especially for the lead free zone places.

Maybe someone who have the rifle can chime in here ---- it looked like in the videos that there was plenty of extra room (length) in the magazine. In your estimation --- would max OAL could be loaded?

A 250 gr. Mono-Flex would take up a lot of case capacity .....velocities would be lower than the factory 250 gr. lead core....maybe just over 2000 fps....

If they made a 160-180 gr. Mono-Flex it would leave plenty of case volume and I would expect around 2500-2600 fps at 40,000 psi the cartridge is rated for to use in AR's....

If they made a bolt action, single shot ONLY P+ load they could go high as 60,000 psi....it would never happen because of "STUPID" factor......

A bullet that I have been working on for 2 years and got them to catalog is the Cutting Edge Bullets .451" 160 gr. Raptor Flat Base copper....its almost the same length as the Hornady 250 gr. lead core factory bullet....it can be loaded to safe AR pressure of 2678 fps in a 20" 1-24" twist barrel...I've shot 5- deer in the past 2 seasons all DRT from 80-185 yards....with minimal blood shot meat no exits....

https://cuttingedgebullets.com/cgi-bin/ ... _CU_RAPTOR

100% legal for California....no lead....

I'am guessing that the Rugers have a SAAMI chamber and trough so bullets cannot be seated out longer to gain case capacity...should be plenty of magazine length to seat longer...

coyote wacker-
"trough" means throat, right?

The SAAMI chamber and throat will permit a Hornady Monoflex 250-gr .451 ML bullet to be seated far enough out of the case to regain any powder space lost to having a length greater than the standard 250-gr FTX.

Hoot provided an illustrated post about this three years ago. His measurements are pretty close (+/- 0.01") to my own. I'm pretty sure I have a SAAMI-standard throat, because I ordered my reamer from Manson with SAAMI dimensions specified.

Hoot's post with photo is the last one in this thread: Resized Hornady .458 350gr Interlock Load Data (Note that Hoot's photos and discussion are not about the the .458 bullet.)

The Monoflex ML and the FTX bullets have a similar nose shape to allow a somewhat greater length to perform properly. I don't know what the max COAL might be to permit feeding from the magazine of the Ruger bolt rifle.

I hope this is clear. If not, I'll try again.
