Savage Haymaker

Postby Moore77 » Sat Sep 07, 2024 5:09 pm

I’ve owned a Savage Haymaker for several years now and it shoots extremely well especially with hand loads with help from this group..(.70 - .9 all day long). I don’t shoot a lot , a little time on the bench but mostly at Ohio Whitetail to put meat in the freezer. I’ve been thinking about a different rifle due to some of the negative reviews about Savage on the internet but would like some opinions from others in this forum. Yes it’s ugly but for what I do, I don’t think I can improve on the accuracy even if I would trade and spend an additional $600+. Give me your opinions good or bad , I’m not easily offended ( I grew up watching Archie Bunker ) Thanks

Al, most of the negative comments are from high volume shooters and problems with bolt operation and consistency. Like I said, I’m not into that . Accuracy for a couple shots in the field a year is my goal. Just wish the magazine was a flush fit. The gun is a shooter with the Barnes 250 and 275’s. . I’ll probably just hang onto it.

Yea they are not the slickest bolts for sure.

That Haymaker takes a AICS mag I believe, maybe do a search for a flush mount ?

Found this in a quick search might be others

If it is working successfully for you and your needs, why worry about what other people think?
In every firearms company, there's going to be a few lemons. Heck, look at today's Remington 870s!
Money is precious these days. If it works for you, don't worry about it.
Nobody here on this forum is going to give you a hard time. just shoot and enjoy!
And if you've got any wild game meat in your freezer, you're doing better than me right now.
I'm having to hunt my meat at Krogers..! ;)
