I'm new to building a rifle and I want to build a 450bm out of a savage 12fv. I want to order my barrel from mcgowen if he calls me back. After I order the barrel and have it shipped is their anything else I need to do? Will a .308win bolt face be ok to use for the 450bm and is there anything else I have to worry about?

I have never seen a Savage done on a blind magazine, so you may or may not have some feeding issues that might need tweaking.

where are you located?

I live in oxford and work in dearborn. What would I possibly need to do on magazine?

you might not need to do anything with the mag box or follower, I was just tossing it out as a potential problem seeing your going to be feeding a straight walled cartridge.

fwiw, when I did my Remington 700, there were no issues with the stock 308 follower and FTX bullets, XTP's were hit or miss till I swapped that follower with a WSM size which feeds both flawlessly now.

There is a guy in Grand Blanc that puts a bunch of Savages together, Norm Fox I think is his name. He'd have way more insight than me on a Savage.
