I bought one from Randy's. Purpose was purely hunting. AR's have fallen out of favor with me for hunting in the deep MN woods. I only need one shot. Convenience and light weight is another factor. I did not buy this as a bench gun. I have never shot a deer yet off a bench.

Mine did not come with a brake. I purchased one but did not like the noise, plus the recoil mitigation was not much. A definite negative when hunting when hearing protection is usually not used.

Although, the RAR is excessively light. I am adding 2 pounds to it, just to see if I can sense any reduction. It would still weigh less than my AR.

FYI I added (temporary) 2 pounds to the RAR. One pound up front and one pound in the butt stock. There is a definite reduction in the recoil. According to JBM Recoil calculator --- about 20%. It kicks like my RAR in 30'06.

I would like a flush magazine. The gun seems to carry nicely, but the mag is in your hand.

I love muzzle breaks.....the Ruger is no fun at all without it.....especially bench shooting....

dunno if a 308 size mag will fit and if it did, you probably lose a round in capacity, then to make it feed................dunno

worth looking into maybe.

I have to agree. When bench shooting the 22" without a muzzle break, I thought I was shooting a cannon, so did my shoulder. It didn't take long and that rifle went down the room. I purchased the GS Scout which has the muzzle break and I could shoot that all day without my shoulder complaining.

I emailed Ruger to see about getting a factory brake since I jumped the gun and got one from Randy's without. They want $99.95 plus shipping. Who knew 20% of the total price of the gun was just the brake.

For half that, you can get a Ross Schuler brake that works like a dream. $99 is ridiculous!
