Barrel, how long

Postby Gurn » Thu Dec 08, 2016 2:06 am

Although I aint really in no position due to health and other things to buy ah gun right now I just like ta ponder. I have a R15 18" barrel in 450 with a Vortex 3x9. I think it's great but got this idea to build a long range set up, if you could ever call the 450 a long range gun. Any how someday I'd like ta build or buy a bolt. What I'm interested in is how much difference in velocity 18 compared to a 22 or 24 inch barrel would make. I think it would be sweet to have a nice bolt with something lke a Burris Eliminator on it. Thanks in advance

here is a test MGM did on some various cartridges and barrel lengths, some interesting results. Reloading the 450 into a Encore or bolt gun, takes it to a whole new level.

Yes factory horns you 250 ftx. I was reloading 200 gr. Xpb that ran 2869 fps without any pressure signs and grouped well
