new ruger american rifle extractor problem

Postby gmstack » Tue Jan 09, 2018 4:22 pm

I brought new ruger American rifle home today and the extractor doesn't work. I called ruger and customer service lady says "oh you need to shoot it " I told her the extractor doesn't move easily and will not close over the case but it didn't change her mind. anyone else have a similar problem ?

it doesn't seem to have any spring tension so I removed it and check spring and ball seem ok.

i had a similar problem with my 762x39 american. i ended up stripping the bolt and soaking it in brake cleaner multiple times, letting it dry completely each time. then i oiled up the insides dripping wet, and wipped off as much excess as i could. seemed to fix the extraction issue. still have a couple ejection issues from time to time.

The extractor has no spring tension at all it is almost immobile . the only way to move it is with a screw driver pushing against it. if you push it up it stays there . then the only way to move it down is doing the same thing in downward direction.
