Interesting range results

Postby Josh » Sat Aug 25, 2018 6:59 pm

So, I was interested in what kind of velocity my 16" bolt gun was going to turn in with factory Hdy Custom ammo. It seems the test barrel is 20" long and a 1-24 twist and that delivers a 2200 FPS velocity. Well here is the reading from my 1-16 twist rifle... 2300 fps... I kinda expected to see the same velocity, but not an additional 100 FPS. So guys, moral of the story is, make sure ya know what you're doing if your rifle deviates from the norm. Also, I can't say enough good about the Rhineland Arms barrel, it just stacks rounds down range. The pic is 3 at 100...

Get a chance to try those heavy cast bullets yet? ?

I have a 22" 16t Green Mtn barrel on my 700, it was doing 2350ish with some 5yr old factory ammo last time I checked it.

Nice shooting!

Temperature and Twist can move velocities around. Also how broken in the bore is can have an impact (less = more) and its actual internal dimensions. In this caliber, bore pressure plays a role in velocity.

In Theory, there is no difference between theory and practice. In Practice, there is.
