450 bushmaster and rhineland arms barrel

Hello all. Been a while since my last post, but Ive finished my first season of deer hunting here with the 450 I built up on a 98 action and rhineland barrel. If I can figure out how to post pictures I will put some up.

Anyhow, Im pretty happy with how it performed on game. My paper accuracy running the 250 ftx with 37.5 gr of little gun, seated just off the lands runs a pretty consistent 2" at 100 yards. Muzzle velocity with that load averages @2,330 with no pressure signs. Performance on game is pretty impressive, but the bullet seems kinda fragile. Not sure how it would hold up at higher velocities. So, though id like to do a little more load work, Ive got a load now thatsok in my book.

Guess id like to hear others experience with the rhineland barrel on their bolt gun, if you're willing to share. How about loads you've worked up ?

I am interested in others experiances, as well. I have a rhineland barrel for my savage 308 that will get installed this year. Once I have some results, I will post them here.

I am very interested in hearing your opinions of the barrel. I have the intention to order the same barrel as yours. As soon as my fun money fund gets some additional funds. I will probably order a barrel in Feb.
Did you use the tupperware stock from the factory? I hope i can get by with the factory stock for a couple of months.
My build will be an Axis action short lefthanded . It started life as a 223 was changed to a 7TCU and changed again to a 308. Kevin

I built mine on a vz24 Mauser action/a Richardson stock blank and put a Timney trigger on it. Just don't like synthetic stocks!

If I were to do it again I think I'd opt for the 18" barrel over the 16.5". The thing I really don't care for is the dumb 3/4"×24 threaded muzzle. Looks stupid to me. They really need to include a threaded cap to cover it. Only thing they have to offer is a silly flash hider. I haven't been able to locate a decent brake to accept those thread dimentions. That would at least be usefully.

Oh, good luck on your build. The whole installation is pretty painless using the savage system. Just need to rent some head space gauges and come up with a spanner wrench to tighten the nut once the barrel is headspaced.

Ross Schuler has a dandy brake with those threads.

He usually answers pretty quick, but doesn't have a website that I know of, makes 3 and 4 port side discharge brakes in various OD's and thread sizes, very reasonable prices to boot.

TBK From your comment. Is the barrel nut a different dia. than normal?
That is also good information on the comp. Thanks

Yes, the nut is supposed to take a spanner like an AR tool. I just made my own by bending a piece of flat stock to the diameter of the nut, tack welding a bar the same width as the pivot or groove of the nut so it can get a purchase on the nut. Then I welded a chunk of 3/8" rod to the outside of the bent flat stock as a tool handle.
