Why is Savage wolverine so heavy

Postby messer454 » Mon Mar 04, 2019 10:32 pm

Can anyone tell me why the Savage Wolverine .450 is so heavy? I had a Ruger and I cannot stand the bolt coming up and out of battery every time you touch it. I will no longer own one without a locking bolt so the Ruger and Mossberg are out. The Ruger Scout is 6.2 lbs with a metal detachable magazine but has a whole bunch of expensive features that I don't need. Why is the Wolverine 7.9 lbs?

Hopefully Thom will chime in, I know he has both.

I know your pain with nonlocking bolts, my first guess would be stock and barrel profile and the Savage action isn't as petite as a Rugers. LGS here had regular 77's in 450 at one time.

I recently bought a Savage Wolverine and I really like it. I think the weight comes from a slightly longer and beefier barrel. For me, the extra weight was one of the reasons why I chose the Wolverine....extra weight means more manageable recoil. I thought it wasn't bad at all to shoot.
