Looking for 300 gr cast bullet loads for Ruger 450 Scout

Postby Keone » Wed May 13, 2020 10:19 pm

I had just purchased a Ruger Gunsite Scout in 450 Bushmaster. I am in my 70s now and quit casting, I would like to use Missouri Bullet 300 gr TCFP, BHN18 for bench shooting. I could use it single shot, does anyone have any loads or bullet suggestions? I plan to reload the Hornady 250 gr FTX also, but looking for a cheap thrill for an old guy.

I've been trying a number of cast gas check bullets in my bolt action Axis build, 275 gr HP, 316 gr SWCs, but they don't shoot anywhere near as good as the 250 FTX and 300 grain XTP-MAG do.

300gr XTP Mag shoots great for me as well, 1:16 barrel Savage.

I recommend the 50th Lyman load manual, has some good cast loads for the Bushmaster.

Keone-

Regarding cast bullets: If you have not already done so, reading the long-running thread on cast bullets in the reloading forum may be interesting and helpful:
CAST BULLETS discussion.

Some of the topics in that thread concern difficulties associated with use of cast bullets in the AR-15 rifle, which are probably not pertinent to your Scout. If you do find successful loads, be sure to describe your work in the reloading forum.
