Well, I liked my original Ruger American so much, I bought another. Had a buddy borrowing a backup gun the last two years- my CVA .44 mag (rechambered in .445) and am going to sell it and just go with these two Ruger Americans. The new one is a Randy's Hunting Center exclusive- 22" stainless without the brake. This one will fix some of the shortcomings (to me) of the original one, by being stainless and having a longer barrel. My 16" braked model left my ear ringing a for a couple hours in 2017 with one shot from inside the blind, and for a week after 3 shots from inside the blind in 2018. (Didn't have time to get my plugs or muffs on either year.)
I've only had it a week or two, so it's still a work in progress. Unlike my other one, in a post a page or two back, whose trigger wouldn't adjust below 6 1/2 lbs, this one came with about a 4 3/4 lb pull that wouldn't adjust any lower. I ended up cutting a coil and a half off and have it at 2 3/4 lbs now. Got an Mcarbo spring on the way to play with too- in the interest of science. Going to cut this stock's length of pull back 1/2" like I did the other one. Going to add another slightly longer bolt handle on this one too like I did the other. Basically following the same pattern, but don't think I'm going to bother with building up the comb permanently on this one. I'll probably just tape padding on the comb of the backup rifle and use the green stock with the Weatherby-like comb on the main gun.
By the way Hoot, decided to put a Red Oak plywood sheet on top of my old workbench so it would look a little nicer, and being lighter in color, I can see parts laying on it. Since I had to take everything off the bench to put it on, it doesn't have as much clutter.. yet.
