450 Bushmaster AR Pistol hunting in Ohio ?

Postby jcdflint » Mon Jan 09, 2017 4:17 pm

I'd like to hunt deer in Ohio with a AR 450 Bushmaster AR Pistol. Has anyone use one in Ohio for deer ? From what I read it matches pistol hunting laws listed... Just want to be clear on it ..Thanks ..Jeff

I did this past season.
I spoke with the county game warden first.
He conferred with his peers and superiors.
He phoned to tell me it was permitted.
I have an RR pistol lower to which a butt cannot be attached.
At the least, use a "pistol buffer tube" and never have a butt with you.

Hi ardenkent Cool! I did email Ohio DNR about it and got a email back that stated "it was legal" if it was a ATF defined pistol and you abided by pistol rules in hunting Regulations Were good to go :)... !
What 450 Bushmaster upper are you using ??? ( barrel lenth) Thanks Jeff ...Happy hunting :)

i have the 16 inch Bushmaster carbine upper on a Rock River Pistol lower.

for consideration by the wildlife council for the upcoming deer season
is elimination of the " rifle cartridge list " with replacement by
" any straight walled cartridge .357 to .50 caliber ".

so if it passes you can use your buttstock in november but just three
rounds in the magazine and chamber total.

i thought the 450 bushmaster already fell under the ohio rules for firearms deer?

ya'lls rules of the straight walled stuff was part of the reason michigan adopted similar rules for our "limited firearm" hunting zone.

ohio was cartridge specific and the 450 was never on it. My guess due to it being on the AR platform.

the list seemed to come from the antique guns in the collections of the old farts on the Wildlife Council.
the game wardens seem cool with the AR, in general.

I contacted SilencerCo about minimum barrel length with a Hybrid.....its 8"....

Been on the look out for a 1-16" twist around 12.5" barrel for a pistol.....
