What would the ballistics be out of an 8" barrel? This might be a veryvery fun hunting revolver!

Thread bump and question; Wildcatter approximately how much would it cost to convert a 460 SW revolver to handle the moonclips and 450B?

Won't that cylinder still handle the regular rimmed cartridges that it would before?

I'm on this, but have no definitive answers yet. My thinking is that it just might still handle the rimmed cartridges after conversion, but that is to be determined, as for cost, no answer on that either, but consider the cost of the original weapon, then a chamber reamer and then the machining for the clips and then say 20 custom Mooneers and Bingo.. Not cheap, but the most effective total over-all system I can think of, in the field..t

Wildcatter-
I was reading a thread on another forum that stated the 7.62 case head is really close to the .45 acp, so I was comparing the .450 and .45acp ammo @ home and they are indeed fairly identical. Would using the .45acp moon clips be a cheap and viable option for moons with a cylinder conversion?

This may be a dumb question; but if the 460 SW has a COL of 2.275; and the 450 B has a COL of 2.260; why would a 460 SW pistol need to have the chamber reamed? Is it due to the case diameter? :?:

2 different measurments.... COL is cartrage overall length. The chamber is measured by diameter as well as other things to consider. I'll leave the rest up to others more qualified. Or, Maybe I'm missing something here?

Ok, wazoo and 206,

The dias. of the 7.62x51, 45acp, and the 450.. Yup they all have the same head dia and it very intutive that you might think that the Moon clips for the 45 acp would work, but this is not the case. The 450 body dia is much larger than the acp's and as such we'd have center to center vairables that are incompatable with using the acp moon clips. Something further, There are very slight differences with the rim on the 450, wherein, when I load the clips with the 450, they are far to difficult to load/unload, in the extreme.

Wazoo, GN answered your question, the problem isn't just length, but girth too, we can't put our 450 into a smaller dia hole.

I hope this sheds a little light on the subject, fire away if you've got another idea, guys. Your questions shows you are thinking like engineers, keep it up, to do so will absolutely contribute to making a better product...We can't think of everything and your in-site or wants and wishes, just might be the log-jam breaker or the next best-est-thing going.
