Okay, looks good to me, considering pic quality and the fact that my eyes are having to look at detail that is 1178 miles away, as the crow flies. Do you have a mouth Dia., or, are you familiar with my now famous ;) Thunk Test?

AHH, the infamous 240 XTPmag ;)

I can't really see any crimp, What type of crimp did you apply?

IMO a few measurements would be helpful.

NICE looking round! So far this is my favorite round to load up

This is my favorite load for this bullet

40grs W296
2.060 OAL
Hornady brass

38grs W296
2.060 OAL
Winchester 450/284 brass

What is your load date on this bullet?

Oldmanjeffers, I used the Taper crimp die from Hornady and followed the instruction that came with the set. I am not use to using a Taper crimp die. from what I have heard we have to use the taper crimp on this bullet. All my reloding in the past Ive used a rolling crimp. I loaded this round last night. I too like the 240 gr XTP MAG. I bought 100 count box from Cabelas last weekend for 26.00 I am using 35.6 grs of H110. I'm Off to the shooting range in the morning!

The Tapper crimp is correct, No roll crimp because of our case chambering on the case mouth, Thats where the "Thunk" test comes into play, If you take a loaded round and drop it into your chamber you should here a "THUNK" if you don't then you've 1) Put too much taper on it, or 2) Your bullet is set out to far.

One quick piece of advice, Don't drop your bolt on a round you chambered by hand, You'll snap you extractor and be down for a bit. ( I did it and it was no fun )

Plus the 7.62x39 extractor works for our brass, I've used one for the last 150 rounds or so and it's worked fine. Bushmaster did send me a few but hey! why fix it (again) if it's not broke.

Have fun!

While the 240 XTP Mag bullet is good, I get better accuracy at 100 yards from the 225 FTX.
Normally they are the same price at Midway, but the 225 FTX is on sale for about 10% less right now.

100) 225 FTX $26.49 regularly, $22.10 (on sale right now)
100) 240 XTP Mag $26.49

The 225 FTX ahead of 38gr Lil Gun shoots MOA or less at 100 yards off of a bench with my rig. The 240s aren't far behind with 1 to 1 1/2 inch groups, but multiply the geometry out at 200 yards and it adds up. The 225 penetrates to the 5th of 6 milk jugs full of water with a big mushroom too. They cost half what the other FTXs cost. I have not had the chance to shoot jugs with the 240, but I'm sure it does just as well.

Food for thought.

When I logged on I thought I'd have to ex-plane what thunk'en was, but I see OMJ and the Hoot Man have got all the bases well covered. I might would only add, that your 35.6 gr of H110 seems a little low and low charges in H110/WW296 are very dangerous practices. If OMJ says to do things things, I'd just throw down my shovel and go to it, if I were you. Oh! What are those things? Well, one would be to use 40gr of 296, cause he-da-man, and the other would be if'en he said go inside and git ya some vittles, I'd just have to git ta gitt'en. In other words, some of these guys in these here parts, got it wrapped up in spades.

Just a reminder for some of you guys that are new to reloading, H110 and WW296 are in essence, the same powders and the data for one can be used for the other..t
