I was looking for anyone that has some 284 brass that was extra or didn't work out as 450 Bushmaster. I am looking to make a 450 Bushmaster Arbor for my .223 Aimshot bore sighter. Because the brass is still limited I was hoping someone had a few 284 shells that they are willing to part with. Thanks.

Will a once fired Hornady case work?

Sure any 450 will work, I just figured due to brass availability it would be a waste to use a good 450 case. I was hoping someone had a 284 out there they gave up on.

I in no way gave up on the 284/450 brass but have some "extras" that I will donate to the cause.

Closing the action on a .284 case is sometimes difficult if not dangerous for your extractor due to the differences between the rim and extractor groove diameters in the 450b being smaller than the .284 by design. You may want to use actual Hornady cases so as not to stress your extractor, or do as I did and turn down the rim and extractor groove diameters with a lathe or in a drill press with a file. This is a well documented fact that can be found in several threads here.

It has been postulated that the original run of 450b bolts were actually made to .284 dimensions, but as demand grew, Bushmaster went to the 7.62x39 bolt which is a different spec (narrower) than the .284 and less expensive to sub-contract out.

One could also remove their extractor, Or feed it up into their chamber from the magazine.

But from personal experience I would not drop your bolt on a hand chambered round! Mine did not brake right off but waited to completely fail once I had paid my range fees and just got into the groove of shooting. Thats little Oops cost me TWO pieces of brass and to much down time.

Good info Hoot since I haven't gotten into using 284 brass I hadn't read the posts about the rim. I appreciate those interested in the arbor making process. Hopefully it won't be too hard, but it does need to be precise to be worth a darn.
