Gun is still at the smithy, gonna check on it Monday am. Had to come home and take care of my hound, wife's dad got life-flighted to the mayo in Minnesota for heart surgery so she followed. Dropped the 450 and a Rossi wheel gun off at the same time, they left a message on Thursday that the wheel gun is finished, so when I go pick it up Monday, maybe I'll get some info on what they found. Chomping at the bit to get it home and get it all put back together and test fired and ready to go for deer season.

Yeah, me too. Ain't counting much for deer this year. They've found a bunch of dead deer laying around, some counties are giving refunds for deer tags due to die off. I'm outside the problem area, but the population is still down. We'll see how it goes.

Just a quick update, the surgery was successful,i now have confirmed free bore, checked with .451 and .452 bullets in the oal gauge. Now just got to load up some of the deep curls and try them out.

tbirdman74-
Could you provide any information about what your smith found about the problem? There have been several ideas put forward on this thread about possible causes for the problems you observed. It would be educational to find out what was the diagnosis by the hands-on professional. Was it a screw-up by Bushmaster in chambering, and/or something else.

Thanks.

I had the same issure a few weeks ago while shooting the Barnes 250X with my modded PMags, half-moon slivers shaving off and seizing the fired case in the chamber. Suspected the angle of the round in the mag causing the issue, but didn't have either the factory mag or factory rounds. Out shooting today after I reworked the followers to match the angle of the factory mag. Worked flawlessly, no FTF's, stuck cases, or shaved bullets. I'm going to go kill a buck this weekend.

Well, near as I can tell from rudimentary measuring devices on hand, they reamed the chamber, taking about .003 out of the leade of the chamber. Before .451 bullets would not go in without shaving them, now, .452 bullets will enter freely with the oal gauge. Still have not gotten it out to the range, but weather permitting, I'll get it done in the next few days.
