Is there any reason for my to shy away from using the 230 grain FMJ bullets that have an exposed lead base? Do the bases deform inconsistently at these velocities?
BTW, you might want to check any factory Hornady ammo you buy. I got a couple boxes in the mail yesterday. My first clue was when I opened the box and several pieces of the black plastic frame that the cartridges came in fell into my hand! Most of the bullets were driven too deep into the cases. One was driven in 0.1 inches! I checked that with QuickLoad and it predicted an increase in pressure of 1.5 times. That's a little scarry. I bumped the bullets out a little with a kinetic puller, reseated them and crimped them. Hopefully that will hold them. I was a little concerned by how easy it was to move the bullets around in the cases.
