Supressing the 450.....subsonic loads?

Postby Outdoored » Tue Jan 21, 2014 1:25 pm

I am considering suppressing my 450. I wanted a suppressed round for hog elimination and didn't want to spend the money on a 300 blackout...it's just an additional caliber I'd have to buy for. I figure a 300+ grain bullet traveling at 1050fps beats a 220g bullet traveling the same speed:)

I have a couple of questions regarding the 450 and suppressing it......

Has anyone ever tried to suppress such a large caliber....and is it as quiet as say..... a 300 blkout?

Does anyone have a subsonic load recipe handy that will cycle the action? Standard spring and tube.

Currently I only have lil gun to work with......

My setup is a 20" barrel, RR lower (NM trigger) standard buffer tube/spring.

Suppressing .45s is much harder than stuff about 33 on down. The hole is so big and the gas volume is low that the effectiveness is low. I'd rather shoot a .30 caliber 125 at 2400 fps than a 320 at 1000 in suppressed mode. I hunt and shoot suppressed quite a bit, and I shoot my .260 suppressed and most times game past about 200 does not even react to the gunshot.

In short, I think you will spend a lot of money and be disappointed with the result.
