Guys, even Tim said going to 24" would likely reward you with diminished returns. 20" is supposed to be optimum. However, Tim also points out that FPS actually INCREASES in the 20" when compared to the 16" with the 1:24 twist somewhere between 128-138 FPS +/-.

That seems odd, completely different than what we saw...

But then again, like you mentioned. Different platforms do different things.

I don't think we were discussing single shot/bolt actions when we were talking about it, rather the AR platform. But that's been several years ago. I wished Tim could come in here and clear this up but he's been kinda under the weather too.

Both my AR and my single shot love the 250 grain. 38.0 Lil Gun and slowly work up. I wouldn't go past 40.5 grains though. It just gets flashy.

38 gr Lil Gun has always been my "go to" load for my 1;24 AR barrels. It gave one holer groups at 100yd and will kill anything that walks, crawls, or swims in Florida.
Just seems like the recoil % has increased with the 1:16 18inch barrel. Baybe it's just in the stock design.

There may be an increase. I sure as hell couldn't tolerate that single shot without a pad and brake. I tried. Brutal comes to mind.
NOPE NOPE NOPE NOPE NOPE NOPE NOPE NOPE NOPE NOPE NOPE NOPE.
Gotta have a Limbsaver pad and a ROSS Brake.

"Kills on one end; wounds on the other"... ;)

The laws of physics being what they are, the reaction (recoil force) to a given action (launching boolit at a given fps) will always be a certain amount. Percieved recoil is where the pain meets the brain. Weight of the weapon, stock design and a person's physical characteristics all play a big part in how recoil is felt/percieved and will vary from person to person with the same weapon. I think stock design is the major influence, though.
