I just received some Hornady SST 300gr bullet. I think I'm really going to like this one! Does anyone have any experience with this bullet? Is it any different than the FTX? I had some 250gr FTX come apart on me on a couple of deer at about 100yds and while the deer dropped, I didn't like finding lead and copper in my dinner! I'm just trying everything and so far the gun shoots everything good, so I guess it's up to personal preference. It's nice having to choose between .5" groups and 1" groups that I'm getting with 200,225,230,250,275, and now 300gr bullets. Who says it is not a versatile cartridge?

same construction as the 250gr FTX, heavier so slower might help it stay together.

A long time ago, I tried some of the 300 SST ML that a member sent me to play with and I couldn't get them to fly to my satisfaction out of my 1:24 barrel. About the time they began to tighten up, I ran out out of pressure limit. I'd bet they would do better in a faster twist barrel though. Thought I had done a range report on them but could not find it. I generally had poor luck with 300 grainers et al, out of my 1:24 original Bushmaster barrel. Soon as I dropped to 275gr or less, then no problem. Even though I have no mission for 300 grainers, I spent an inordinate amount of effort trying to find a recipe that the different offerings liked. Never felt like I "cracked the code". Go figure...
