450 Brass options?

Seems like the going rate for 450 BM brass is $0.95 to $1.00 a piece. Before I order a couple hundred, I'd like to verify with the community here, there isn't a brand or option that I am missing?

It would be nice if Starline made brass for the 450 BM, but doesn't appear that they do?

Thanks all!

Hornady is the only game in town for new, unfired brass.

When you can find a box of factory ammo on sale for $25 or so it makes you wonder if buying the new brass is worth it.

Yeah, Hornady is the only option for virgin brass. I've noticed it goes on sale a few times a year for about $0.85 a piece.

Dantheman has a point though, when ammo goes on sale for $1.25/round, it's kind of hard to beat. With that said, I bought 300 pieces of virgin brass for certain bullets, new brass lengths are more consistent.

I believe Bud's has New, Hornady, unprimed, 450b for $41.00/box if you'd rather just get the brass. Not sure about their shipping, but if you get more than one box, it'll start to get more affordable. I haven't seen it anywhere for $41/box in a long time.

for now i'll stick with buying ammo to get my brass. just doesnt make sense, mathematically.

new brass @ $41/box = $0.82 ea
250 FTX = $0.61 ea
primer = $0.035 ea
powder = $0.15

= 1.615 per round = 32.30 per box of 20 for your first loading on "new" brass.

hornady black can be had for $1.40 per round
hornady custom can be had for $1.55 per round

For me the factory ammo has been extremely accurate. It makes sense to just buy the factory ammo, then reload the once fired cases. There aren't a lot of loads that I do that with, but in this case it makes sense. I will probably do the same with my wife's 6.5 Creedmoor for the time being.

Same here, I have enough factory rounds to keep reloads in the "once-fired" category for quite a while...$1/case is not attractive for new brass.

Keep in mind that manufacturers who sell both their ammunition and the brass separately do not want you reloading, if they can get you to buy the higher profit margin loaded ammunition. So, they price their unloaded brass so that you cannot compete by reloading using it. Didn't use to be that way. :roll:
We used to reload to save money. Now, we reload to get additional bullet choices as well as produce loads not limited by litigation lawyer's design parameters. :|

I think you can still save some considerable money reloading, it just doesn't take effect that first loading. Even if I buy the factory ammo for the brass, I'm still going to keep reloading the brass until I lose it, or it gets to the point it can't be reloaded anymore. They get the extra money at the front, but in the long run I will still save money and avoid buying factory ammo down the road.

For me it depends on the cost and quality of the brass vs. the loaded cost. When I put together a Remage conversion in 260 Rem for competition I bought Lapua brass (ouch) and went straight to the reloads. That barrel has never seen a factory load. With 300 Whisper and 300 Blackout I have made my own brass from range pickup .223 and never bought a loaded round or factory case.
