Case Sooting

Postby Thom28 » Wed Apr 12, 2017 9:16 am

Wondering if anyone could explain to me what causes some of the cases to show more sooting than others?
I am using Lil Gun powder,7 1/2 Rem primers, and both the Hornady 225gr FTX and 250gr FTX bullets.
I have noticed that some cases show more sooting than others and just wondered what was causing it.
Thanks for the help

sooting typically caused by the case slow to sealing in the chamber.

possible causes, a generous cut chamber, lack of bullet tension or crimp to get the powder burning, slow burning or powder on the lower end for charge weight, or maybe it's the AR's operating system.

I usually have minor sooting from my AR (16" factory) and zippo on my bolt gun with the same loads.
