Possible new bullet

Postby TylerM » Mon Sep 11, 2017 7:23 pm

So I'm new, just bought a RARR and haven't even shot it yet. But I was looking for ammo to buy ( bought some Hornady black) and I noticed this loading from underwood ammunition.https://underwoodammo.com/shop/450-bushmaster-220-grain-xtreme-hunter/ yes it seems expensive but just throwing it out there. I know this isn't reloading related but I didn't know were to post it...maybe the bullet will be available

Lehigh has had something of a run on their bullets lately, but they should be in stock before too long. They make a brass 245 gr. Extreme Penetrator and the 220 gr. copper Extreme Hunter you mentioned. I hope someone gets to try these in the upcoming deer season so we can get some sort of in-the-field results from these things. The brass version may be the one for piggy popping, and the copper should be ideal for deer...? I hope we have some adventurous souls who will give 'em a shot...( )...so to speak.

At $3 a round, I can't justify even trying it. Plenty of other ammo that fits the bill at more reasonable prices.

when you compare this offering to reloading it yourself....

the bullets themselves are $48 / 50 = $0.96 (shipping not included!)

they use new production brass - which means the cost is somewhere between $0.65 - $0.90 per case (depending on brand)

by the time you add in powder and primer, they're not getting rich off this stuff.

with similar projectiles lehigh is getting right about the same cost per round for their loaded ammo (unfortunately nothing to directly compare to, since lehigh doesnt load 450bm yet).

point being they're not off the ranch with their pricing for a premium quality offering, even if its outside of your budget comfort zone.

just my $0.02 USD

I know I'm thick as whale blubber.... but...What's a RARR.....?
Might you mean a Ruger American Rifle chambered in 450 Bushmaster?

Ruger American Ranch Rifle

That's what I would take it as.

Okay. People start using the "RAR" and I start thinking of a different caliber all together.

Yes I meant Ruger American ranch rifle just too lazy to type it out lol. And of course it's in 450 bushmaster. After my scope purchase I may buy one box to try but at $60 a box I probably won't buy often
