heads up on cheap bullets

American Reloading has some good prices on 200 grain Barnes and Hornady 225 grain FTX pulled bullets in stock right now. I am in no way affiliated with this vendor just wanted to pass along a potential good deal. Go to projectiles, then pistol, then .45 caliber.

Those 200 xpb’s aren’t the ones we use. I have no idea if they will work in the 450B.

Also, they are running a 15% off promo for 44 and 45 cal bullets. It shows you the code at check out, just plug it in. They also have free shipping. So I picked up 500 of the 225 FTX for $85 total. Can’t beat it!

Da'yum, that's a great price for those!!! ImageImage

Given their penchant for accuracy in the 450b, they sure beat 230 fmj's for affordable plinking! I hope some other members jump on that sweet deal.

I hope some other here pick them up as well. If not, I may just have to increase my reserves. Lol

I noticed they also Swift 300gr pulldowns for about half of what new go for. So if anyone was thinking about trying em, it would be worth it to pick some up.

Alright so apparently I was looking at the wrong web site when I mentioned the 300gr Swift bullets. Those are located at Reloading Valley. They also still have some of those 275 XPB’s for 49 cents a piece!

And I thought it was me.

Did you get any of those Swifts? If so, could you cross section one to see how thick the jacket looks? One the outside, they look like they'd expand a lot at our velocities but looks are deceiving. To be honest, if it were my money, I'd get the 275 Barnes. They're pretty long and you can load them longer in bolt actions, for more velocity.

Nope, not you. Lol

I did not order any of them. I looked at Swift’s website a while back, and I’m pretty sure these are the revolver or pistol bullets. They show an example of one of the bullets expansion at different velocities. While I wasn’t impressed with the total expansions, I seem to remember the retained weight was very good. Essentially, I gathered the bullet itself won’t give impressive expansion, but because of the flatter frontal area after expansion and retained weight, the bullet should do very well in the damage and penetration department. So think very large animals for that bullet. Just my assumption, nothing to validate it.

The 275 Barnes is a great deal, and seems to do well loaded out long, even in the AR. I used the 275 TSX loaded out long on a black bear and a cow elk (smaller elk because it was a cull tag), and both times were very impressive. The 275 XPB is very similar, so it should also be a good performer.

Flat point bullets in the 450 Bushmaster cause tremendous tissue disruption. The 230 Grain FMJ flatpoints are a prime example. Wildcatter swears by them.

I have a Swift sectioned someplace, I'll look for it and post it.

The nose is a hollowpoint with a big cavity, bonded, and pretty even thickness in the nose. Shank isn't bonded but the base rolls around about 90% of the bottom so no chance of it squirting out,

I have shot a bunch of their regular blue boxed 300 and 325gr from my MGM 460 Encore rifle, both very accurate, crush 400# bears with no problems.
