Heavy Cast

Postby cwlongshot » Sun Apr 28, 2019 5:04 pm

I have a 425 & 450 bullet I have sized to work in the Bushmaster.

I have tested OAL and function. The 425 feeds 100% as slick as a spitzer. Its odd cause its a WFP profile. The 450 is nearly the same as my favorite 457191 Lyman bullet. Slightly smaller meplat. But altho it feeds sometime you get that “faulse start”

I was concerned with body bulging from the long boolet. But it did not the case. Cases look 100% normal.

Next stage is powders and charge weights.

Anyone been here before?

I would be very much interested in hearing how your big bullets work. Yours have a much wider base band than the 400s I have.

I like the design allot myself!

They are dropping from The mold at 457 and seem to size down to 454 easy enough. The Lanue style thats a 450g is easier as less surface area. But the “nicer” 425 went right thru the LEE sizer with a lil case lube.

I know the 450 wasnt designed as a lead lobber and this my prove a futile journy. But I like heavy for caliber and never have been one to need ultra velocity.

Im anxious to send some of these 425’s thru some 45/70’s as once powder coated they are .460 dia. (I have sizers from 457-462)

I'm assuming you already perused the recent threads on heavy cast 450 bullets by myself and Herker:

I'm always interested in other people's results running similar tests, and I'm glad other people are interested in heavy cast. I've got about 30 or so of my 500 grain bullets loaded up to shoot this weekend at 100 to do some more bullet diameter vs accuracy vs velocity testing. I've also decided I want to ream out the gas port and run an adjustable block, which will be useful when my suppressor shows up.

Good luck with your tests, looking forward to your results.
