Increasing neck tension

Postby Hubcap500 » Sat Sep 07, 2019 2:56 pm

It's been said many times here that the 450B needs lots of bullet pull to get uniform pressures and good accuracy. Most often this is accomplished by a crimp to the case mouth. I searched and couldn't find anything about sizing the case neck to a smaller diameter, such as sizing it with a 45 ACP sizing die.
Has anyone tried it?
Did it work?
Other suggestions?

Hoot tried it, and has a whole write up on it. IIRC, it didn't really help much, everyone would be doing it if it did.

You can always try rolling your own cannelure on bullets that don't have it. it might help a little.

I'd be grateful if you could post a link or search terms. I tried, but failed. Using "neck", "tension", "sizing" "increasing" gave me a result of "Words are too common to be search terms"

For the record, that experiment was a statistically small sample size. I'm not rich enough to perform the typical 10) 5-shot groups for each experiment variation, you often see in the disclaimer of the articles in gun rags.
