Does anyone have data for 450bm ar platform for hornady item#45204 245gr spire point not to be confused with hormady item#45220 xtp mag. I think dimension spec on item#45204 is .848" waiting to confirm with hornady tomorrow. I've only been able to find one person's responce and it was on a review. Says his test load was for ruger ranch rifle not an ar platform. Used 38gr of W296 and 38gr of lil gun with no mention of C.O.A.L. I'm partial to lil gun personally. Thank you in advance to all that may have replies and experience.

No company load data exists for that specific bullet because it just came out, and honestly they probably never will, it’s pretty close to the 250 ftx.

So I personally would load that bullet just short of the ogive (probably .05-.10 off) and use load data for the 250 FTX. That’s where I would start. Maybe load out longer after that.

Did not know that was a new item, figured if anything it was obsolete or phased out. I'm fairly new (7yrs) at reloading. I have developed some loads for myself over the course of time with luck and testing and being very cautious. I don't have spire point projectiles yet so don't know where it would seat on ogive. Best calculation I can come up with on my own would be
Spire point .848"
XTP MAG .672"
Difference of .176"
If i use c.o.a.l. for xtp being 2.060 and add difference of
.176 should give me c.o.a.l. 2.236"
Do you have thoughts on this? I've learned the hard way on headspace issues in the past. Pulled my fair share of projectiles. Thank you for your reply

I have contacted hornady today. They have confirmed length spec on item#45220 XTP MAG @ .672" and length spec on item#45204 spire point @ .848". Tech at hornady says spire point IS developed for 450BM and will be published in hornady reloading manual 11th edition. Tech advised C.O.A.L. @ 2.245"

which means we should have an online data dump for it soon on their website.

they almost always do release data for new products that way. the ELD-X is a perfect example

I have a feeling Hornady isn't going to really test this bullet. They will probably just list it under the 250 FTX data because it is so similar, just with it's own OAL. They do it through out there loading manual.

theres no way the lawyers are going to let them publish data without doing at least some confirmation pressure testing first. especially when working with powders like h110 that are known to be touchy at upper levels.

while i suspect you're correct and we can just use 250 data (and probably head right for the 38gr lil gun load with some simple testing)... as a major manufacturer they've got things tying their hands before they can actually let data out into the wild.
