Hi-Skor 800-X

Postby teddy_d » Fri Apr 10, 2020 6:54 am

So I've got some Hi-Skor 800-X from reloading 44 Rem Mag a few years back and was thinking it might work well in the 450 with the lighter weight bullets 200gr-225gr.

The powder weights are very low for the 44mag 225gr jacketed 14gr-15.5gr., 200gr jacketed 14gr-15.4gr. From an old Metallic Cartridge Reloading manual circa 1989.

The Lyman 50th edition has the 44mag for T/C Contenders and Encore reloading data, 200 grain jacketed 12.0 grains to 14.9 grains of powder.

Has anyone experimented with this powder or is there reason to disqualify this thought of trying to use this powder in the 450BM?

Asking for a friend

Looks to me like it's too fast to be useful for the 450. 44 mag is quite a bit different then 450B. You might be able to get a light plinking load for a bolt gun out of it, but I would run it through Quickload.

Ummm $152 to answer one question is a little out of my budget.

Seems to me that a 44rem mag carbine load or a 44rem mag T/C Contender or Encore load would be close to the same in a BM450.
Similar case size.
Similar bullet diameter.
Same weight.
Same barrel length.

I wouldn't go with any powder faster than Alliant 2400 in this caliber and that one only with bullets below 200gr.
There are more than a half dozen powders that work with the 450b. IMHO. Lil Gun leads the pack with the number of bullet weights that it does well with. 2nd place is a 2 or3 way tie.
