Did more testing with the above bullet using Unique this time. Ran the following charges, 10.2, 10.4, 10.6, 10.8, 11.0, 11.2, 11.4 grains in Hornady brass and Win SR primers OAL was 2.100".. Best load at 100 yards was 11.4 grains, 1164 fps, SD-4, ES-6, ME: 951 ft/lbs. Three rounds grouped 1.63". Mild recoil, a pleasant round to shoot.

Sounds good, do you plan to hunt with this combo?

Yes, going to use this bullet on hogs. The wide flat nose should be a real thumper on those SOBs.

I'm going to up the powder charges until I figure out what the max charge is for accuracy with the heavier bullet. Tough choice, both the 273 grain HP and this 316 gr SWC are both shooting accurate with the Unique powder.

I shot my 450g Louvre boolits yesterday.

Trail boss is mighty slow even with a 98% density loading clocking 500 fps!!

10g Unique netted me just shy if 1000fps.

Both very pleasant the TB load with a KAK installed could be shot W/O ear pro! BUT that slow a bullet dropped 16" @ 100 yards!! Neither of these will cycle the AR. (TB never will For me)

I was looking at ballistics and that 450 @ 1100 nets me MORE THAN 1200 FPE!!!
Thats nothing to sneeze at!! Folks been shooting mighty bug critters with a 240g 43 Mag @ 1400 FPS/1075 FPE since the late 1950's. The 450 has substantially superior ballistics. Using a properly hard/soft bullet it would be DEVASTATINGLY EFFECTIVE on anything inside 100 yards.
