Load results for 405 grain RNFP and 300 grain FNGC

Finally have enough of the 405 grain bullets resized to .452 to continue testing. I continued using Unique for these plain base bullets. Charges ran 11.2, 11.4, 11.6, 11.8 and 12.0 grains. Bullets seated to 2.119". Loads lit by Win SR primers. 11.2 grains was the most accurate load grouping into .988" at 100 yards. Velocity was 1073 fps with SD at 4 and ES at 8. Muzzle Energy for this load was 1065 ft/lbs. Energy at 100 yds down to 997 ft/lbs.

11.4 thru 11.8 grouped between 2.00 and 2.7 inches with velocities of 1083 and 1098 fps. SD ran between 2 and 4. ES was between 5 and 8. 12 grains was the worst load grouping three into 4 inches yet SD was 4 and ES was 8?

The 300 grain cast gas check was loaded over Lil Gun with charges of 21.5, 21.7, 21.9 and 22.1. OAL was 2.187". Primer was CCI400. Best load of this bunch was 21.7 grains yielding 1475 fps with an SD of 22 and ES of 43. Three shot group was .473". Muzzle Energy was 1100 ft/lbs with remaining energy at 100 yards of 1005 ft/lbs. Remaining loads were unremarkable with groups hovering around 3.2 inches and velocities between 1505 and 1513 fps. SD and ES figures were double digit for all the Lil Gun loads. All loads were in Hornady brass.

Going to retest the 11.2 grain load today to make sure the accuracy wasn't a fluke. and will also be testing some 225 gr SWCs and 354 grain RNFP plain base and 350 grain wide flat nose gas check loads.

Reshot that load yesterday at 100 yards. seated the bullet closer to the lands with same 11.2 grain charge of Unique. Seated to 2.145" from 2.119". Velocity increased modestly to 1083 fps but accuracy just wasn't there.

I then tested some loads with 354 grain cast RNFP and 350 grain WFNGC over Unique. 354 grain load was tested with 10.6 to 11.2 grains of unique, bullet seated to 2.120". 10.2 grains grouped three into 1.447" at 100 yds and averaged 1098 fps with 933 ft/lbs of energy. 10.8 and 11 grains gave poor results. 11.2 grains group was 1.878", 1124 fps with 948 ft/lbs. The 350 grain loads shot poorly scattering hits all over the paper, clearly a bullet my rifle doesn't care for (at least with Unique). As bad as accuracy was, SD and ES was in the single digits?
