Casted Zinc Bullets / 450 BM

Postby mebudman63 » Sun Aug 23, 2020 5:59 pm

I cast my own bullets for my 450BM. My go-to for hogs, deer here in Texas is a RCBS 45-300-FN gas checked pushing about 1640 fps.

I am starting to mess around casting zinc in the same mold. the drop weight on these will be around 180-190g. I know zinc is a lot harder so I will be able to push these at "jacketed' speeds but I know expansion will probably stink.

Any thoughts?

Its beginnjng to slowly be attempted. I have a few utube friends who do this with success but not in 450 I know of.

I was gifted some Lyman 358430's and another I dont know numbers for but it a 135 spitzer 30 cal when cast in lead. I shot it over 4198 in a Savage 340 30/30 @ 1950 fps into a ragged hole first guess at a load!! The bullets are brittle but do penetrate. Break on any hard material. I would not hunt them but thats me. Good for those who have no options or no lead.
