The jacket is copper or gliding metal and very thick. The way the jacket reverses towards the bottom will keep the core locked to the jacket almost eliminating the chance for core jacket separation.

That looks like it's going to be devastating on deer!

back in 2013 I took a 300 RUM case and cut it back to 1.800 to make legal for here in southern Michigan. a .500 bullet fits perfect, chambered a ruger 77 for it. It will push that 400gr Winchester bullet a bit over 2400fps with 300MP, and yes, it's devastating on deer or pretty much anything else in it's path.

I'll have to pick some of those 45cal bullets up and see if my guns like them.

Personal pick would be H110/296.

Do you fell 37 grains to be a good starting point, or is that closer to max?

I'd start at 36gr, bump 1/2gr watching for typ pressure signs.

Thanks for your help! I wasn't able to find any reloading info on this bullet and it sits between the 250gr. and 300gr. offerings that are available so it's all going to be a "guesstimate." Would you consider 40 grains a max load for this bullet?

What rifle are you working these loads up for? I'm working on some loads for my AR with an 18" Satern barrel. I've got loads ready to shoot starting with 37 grains of H110 up to 40 grains in .5 grain increments. I functioned tested five rounds at 37 grains and there were no pressure issues, just a bit of sooting. HOWEVER, when I shot a couple of factory Hornady Black rounds right after they were also a bit sooty so I ordered a stiffer buffer spring from Sprinco. I just have to install it and find a place to sight the rifle in since the range I used to go to shut down.
