Crimp Question - 275 TSX - bolt gun and AR

Postby gltucker » Mon Aug 09, 2021 5:45 am

Hi All,

I have a bolt gun I built from a old Turkish Mauser I have set up for sitting in the woods. I have a AR I built for open fields. I did a practice run last night on older brass. I figured I’d crimp for both set-ups. On my dry run round I’m getting .476 on the case mouth edge. Is that’s sufficient for a crimp? It’s a bugger trying to anything on it.

Thanks!

this is at .474, and 2.410ish OAL. I run these in my #1 Ruger and 700 custom.

Do you know if there is a span of tolerances for this type of thing?

Seems to me like a lighter crimp into a cannaleur would be better.
I crimp for my single shots for consistancy. Obviously not to mitigate bullet pull. --- SAWMAN

If it were me, for the AR platform, I'd adjust the load charge (reduce a little) to safely allow the bullet to be seated until the bottom groove was about .1 below the mouth and crimp down into that groove. Holds onto the bullet tighter than my wife's grip on our debit card. ;)

Or possibly change to a faster powder if loading density was a/the problem. --- SAWMAN
