450B Bolt action reloading

Postby Tom13 » Mon Jan 29, 2024 12:13 pm

Hello All:
Have just placed and order for the Ruger American generation 2 rifle. (20 inch). Have done a fair amount of reloading in years past. I was wondering if there are
heavier loads listed for Bolt action 450B weapons?? I have several older manuals that do not list the 450 B. I have loaded for the 45-70 and as you all know most books
show loads for trapdoors, marlin guide guns, Ruger #1 and Bolt actions. I haven't seen any loads online that show more that the pressure for ar type weapons.
Seems to me that you should be able to upload to something similar to the 450 Marlin?? Any help would be appreciated. Driving South to the local BassProShop on Friday.
to pick up some dies and mag primers /powder. It seems what i read most are using Lil Gun powder and small magnum primers? Thanks for any feedback.

I’m sure the guys will be able to help you on this.
I love my Gen 1 Ruger American. Be sure you post a few pics of that GEN 2!
Thanks!

Thanks for the rapid response. Just received a email from the seller stating that there will be a delay in shipping the Ruger American gen 2. He does states that he has
the CVA Cascade in stock for a few dollars more??? One thing is that the ruger has a 1 in 16 twist and the CVA has a 1 in 24 twist. Not sure if that's an issue. Heard that the
cva is built with a Bergara barrel and action. I've owned one of there center fire rifles in 308 it shot great. Have a Bergara 22 also. Has anyone used the CVA in 450 B ??
Thanks again

Loads for the 450 BM anything more than 38'000 psi is go there at your own risk and never even try higher pressure loads in a AR-15....so if you want HOTTER loads your sort of on your own....there are many people that have and do load to higher pressure and 60'000 psi is possible just be very careful...

Myself LilGun is a great powder for 160 - 260 gr bullets primers I only will use only one Remington 7 1/2....be careful and enjoy !

The 1:24 has been fun to shoot in my AR.
But my bolt action and my single shot are both 1:16
This change has forced me to tame down my loads a bit for the
1:16” twist. The 1:16 barrels in the single shot and bolt action platforms
Generate more pressure with lower powder charges. You will see my warnings
On my bench tests in the reloading section of this forum.
