Beware -- that bullet is designed for standard 45LC velocities. Anything over 1000 fps it will be explosive - just like 45ACP bullets.

10-x, but then again maybe explosive effects are what is wanted. They won't generally shoot through an exterior wall nor into the neighbors house, via his exterior wall, but you will need to call a cleaning crew and check into the local sleep-cheap, until the mess is cleaned up, if you need them for home defense, where they will excel. I shoot any of the 45acp hollow-points for that mission and in Hydro test they will Totally self-destruct at our speeds, no need for an expensive sinter-metal fragmentation bullets, as they wont generally penetrate flimsy interior walls and two such walls are nearly a guaranteed stop.

That's why it's hollow under the tip, that area is the receptacle for the barbeque sauce, Bullseye Brand of course..wink

Agreed... but i thought the idea was stretching the "effective" kill range of the 450b so i'm figurin' by the time it slows to 1000fps it's way down range now!

This is good thinking if you intend to kill tough targets further down range, all the time. It will be a good bullet and like all bullets it has it's strengths and weaknesses. The trick is to utlize them properly. It is the reason I like non-expanding flat-points, they work well over a wide range of uses, but are terrible if extreme expansion is needed with low penetration qualities. In other words, one has to define the mission and then pick the bullet for the job and we have more choices than any other caliber..

The trend is to use the different Sinter Metal Bullets, but there is a far cheaper and effective set of bullets, "For Us". Consider, the .451 ACP expandable hollow points, that start life in the 900fps range, they are still expanding at 300fps. Now move them at any speed above 2000fps and typically 2500fps++ for us, what will be the results? They self destruct into thousands of little flat flecks, with 5-6 curly-cued, like a pigs tail, shards, about the size of a pencil lead thick and way less than a half inch long (which might scratch you, but little more and are not considered dangerous at all by themselves)..

These hyper expanded bullets wont normally penetrate an interior wall, except on rare occasions and then with very minimal terminal results, as in nearly none. Sure don't want to kill the neighbor's dog, so these are pretty darn good in selected environments!

Any of the Hollow points made for the 45 ACP or 45 Colt are your best bet. I religiously use the 230 grainers, and love the 185's as well, for home defense or when the amply and vociferously dangerous red squirrels are threatening an attack..wink
