300 grain .452 SST?

Forum member Siringo ran some tests with the 300-grain Hornady SST in July 2009: 300 grain bullet tests.

randyf in August 2010 reported briefly on a load for the 300-grain SST: Re: Hornady 300 XTP Mag for the 450?

Google can't find other reports on the site.

If you do try them, be sure to report what you discover, including powder charges, velocities, accuracy, terminal performance, problems, etc.

In my factory cartridge dreams, I see a Remmy Core-Lokt 300-grainer loaded to near max pressure...then I awaken to reality...oh, well. Would be nice? Let's see what the reloaders can come up with, to stay in the real world...

I would like to see Nosler step into the playground and produce a .452 Solid Base type bullet without the boat tail.
Sort of like this.
But in a 275-325 grain, no boat tail.

..'Without a Boat Tail".. This is actually an important statement. Consider, Boat Tails don't really help much until you get out there a far piece. Secondly, boat tails take up some valuable real estate, that might be better occupied with more powder or a slower powder, all in the effort of besting speeds.

I just ran some stats and apples to oranges, on a 338cal using two identical bullets one a BT the other a FB and then graphed them at 3000fps. You can't even see, on the graph, any difference until you get to 320yds, wherein the BT just barely starts to pull away. Then if you add 100fps to the FB, because we can add some additional powder and of course assuming this is still a safe thing to do, the two bullets nearly fly identically out to 400yds, with the FB within 3/4" of the BT.

So, for me, when the Pigrizzle's comes a knock'en and the chips are down, Give me Speed and Give Me Death! Of course I also want more than reasonable accuracy.

Can I have my cake and eat it too, using a 450b? You Dog Gone Right I can!!..
