Stealthshooter-

Cast projectiles have been discussed continuously on this forum. Here are some of the threads, some of them with the information you need to get started, and some discussing the problems you will encounter:

Some of the threads have the same titles, but different questions, answers, and discussion.

I just had an Idea let me know if I'm up in the night LOL What about getting some half jackets and putting the cast bullets in them then sizing them down to crimp them to the bullet?

Bad news on the tall gas checks. I found out today that they are aluminum and everything I've read says aluminum and chrome bores don't get along. Which brings me again to maybe having a die built that makes some quarter or half jacket.

IF you can find a taller gas check, you would have to adapt a mould to lengthen the relief at the base to accomodate the CG. All of the gas check moulds that I have are cut to accept the shallow gas checks like the ones from Hornady

Might end up using a plain base bullet and crimping a gas check onto it.

Still been talking about gas checks with sagebrush7 on the castboolit forum. I got this message from him today.

Charlie made a gas check die after we talked about taller checks. Do you have custom or modified bullet molds for your Bushmaster?"My trick 450 Bushmaster checks are 457 caliber. .130 .145 out of 13.6 and 17.5 material. shanks are for .425"
Industry standard is .10 tall for the .452. Would the .130 tall checks fit any of your bullets? James

That's what I'm talking about.. Now to see if they will fit onto or force onto, a hard-cast lead bullet?..

We have been talking more and he was wondering if the .145 checks would be better? I seem to remember BD1 saying he has designed cast bullets in the past? What would be the chances we could get BD1 to give us a hand in designing a bullet specifically for the .130 or .145 checks in the 300-325 grain range with a good meplate?

I'd hope so. I have proto-type barrels that are using a .161" hole. So, a .170"+- check might be the trick, if it's possible..
