Does anyone have any thoughts on using AA no.9 powder?
I want to use 200 gr.jacketed bullets from Montana Gold. The base is covered. I have 6 years reloading experience,
but I've never steped out like this. and I dont have a chronograph.

I don't know the anwer, but I'm sure some will be along soon that does.

If you can specify the bullet, the case, and a cartridge overall length I can let you know what quickload predicts.

I plan on useing 200gr. JFP, 2.06in. COL, Hornaday once fired Brass, Remington 7 1/2 primers.

Volt, using a Rainier 200 grain .451 flat point, (because it's in the data base), with the start pressure set for a jacketed pistol bullet, Quickload tells me that a max load would be 36.5 grains of AA #9 yielding 2316 fps @ 39,720 psi out of a 16" .450 B. The prediction is that over 99% of the powder would be burnt by the end of the barrel, so it looks like a suitable load.

Quickload predicts that you could go as low as 30 grains of #9 yielding about 1,972 fps @ 24,515 psi out of the same barrel, and still burn better than 95% of the powder by the end of the barrel, making for a good "plinking" load which should cycle the action just fine.

You'd need to shoot a few over a chronograph to see how accurate these predictions are. The exact dimensions of the bullet, and the exact case capacity of your cases have a lot to do with it, but I'm not seeing anything about this load that's telling me it's not a good idea.

2.08 COL was disapointing. 5 shot groups 3 to 4 inches at 100yrds,with some unexplained fliers opening up to 5 or 6 in
I use C&H dies with what I call a medium crimp, case mouth measures .479 loaded. Factory rounds shoot 2in. or less
in my 16in gun. BTW the reloads cycled fine with the factory mag. wish I would have used the Sig. mag just to see.
