I got 200 45-70 HP, 300gr Remington jacketted bullets at a gun show here in VA. $20/100. Can you beleive it? WOW!!!!
Anyway. Resized to .454 and then to .453 (even though it was suppesed to be .452).
So loaded those babes with the Lil'Gun. Did four loads of 10 each: 32.5, 32, 31.5, 31. I did not clock velocity, But can tell you that I was pretty happy.
Here you can see the results. I use 2.5x scout-mounted pistol scope. Those are at 100 yards. I can tell you that I got better results with the 300gr XTPs from hornady, but I do think this bullet will do me for hunting. What ya think.

This is a cheapo 2.5x NcStar pistol scope. I paid about 45 bucks for it. This is, what is called, a scout setup. You have a low-power pistol or scout scope mounted at an extended distance to the eye so you do not have to close your left eye to aim and you can acquire your target way faster. It also makes it much easier to shoot at a moving/running target because you can see it with both of your eyes.

Forgive my stupidity, please tell me how to re size jacketed bullets, i have sized cast before , has been 20 years since i last loaded but i have the bug again.
i used a rcbs lube sizer last time around , or just point me to a site please

Hey Bob,

There is planty of info here as well some place. But I am using Lee Sizers. It is not lead so it becomes a 2 stage process. First resize to .454" and then to .452". The step are below:

1. I lube the bullets with the Lee Alox

2. I use the .454" Lee sizer to reduce the bullet diameter

3. Then I use Lee .452" sizer to get them the diameter I need:

If you have some imperial sizing wax around you can use that as well to lube up a .458 jacketed bullet for resizing to .453 I find it a little cleaner and easier to deal with than alox.

The Mudder has had wonderful results with Dillon's spray lub too. Maybe we ought to have a heads-up comparison of the different sizing lubs for your drawing process. Myself I like the convince of the sprays, even though it's hard to beat the Imperial Sizing Lub..t

I really like the way Lee Alox works. The only problem, as BD said, it is very messy and difficult to clean.

as wildcatter said I'm having good luck with dillon spray lube (it's just lanolin and alcohol). It made resizing so much easier than using Alox that resizing bullet went from being a pain in the butt that I had to do, to a simple little chore. Not only is it physically easier to resize the bullets, but it's just cleaner. After I'm done I just toss the bullets in my case tumble for awhile (be careful of the weight) to clean them off.
