So I've been thinking.............What if I took a 300 grain cast bullet and built some half jackets and used them instead of a gas check? i can get a half jacket die for $50 http://hawkbullets.com/swage-it.htm What ya think?

Indeed, why not?

The lead wire would need to be bonded to the jacket, as the pressure generated by our standard presses, isn't normally enough to get all the air voids out, from between the jacket and core. Of course, melted lead could be either a cure or curse. A mold die might make that easier. I defer to the experts we have here..
