Seating them to 2.060 is 0.010 longer than the Factory FTX less the red tip, Other load data found else where for the 240 xtp reflects that length also. So that's where I started with my 250 XTP.

I was using factory once fired brass when said extractor came apart, I saw elsewhere the max length on the brass should be .1703 +o -3?
Noticed also the factory fired brass to be 1.691 unsized and the factory twice fired brass to be 1.681-1.686 unsized. Hum??
I Have been looking at this site for awhile now and see a bunch of great info here but no where for all the load data to be consolidated in one place?
I did see a place for information to be put but it seams to only have a very small percentage of the information here on it. Whats the deal with that? :)

Thanks guys for your time on this, I've made every effort to read the other posts on this but it's easy to get information overload.

Not to hijack the thread, but just wanted to clarify that I don't always load everything to 2.25 COL. I have done so with the 250 FTX and it does tighten up the groups. If I could, I'd do them all that way but it is unrealistic with the lighter stuff. Now back to the broken extractor... ;)

I agree with the load info is that it is scattered all over the place. In the Knowledge base is data that I submitted. Looks like no one else has. Step up to the plate boys!!

As soon as I get some solid data, and my extractor hangs in their, I'll share to the Knowledge base for sure!

oldmanjeffers-

Would you post where you found this information on brass length?

Those measurements you give differ substantially from the values published by Hornady. The difference in lengths is in a direction that could possibly cause problems, as Siringo noted.

Thanks.

I've begun processing .284 brass, so I had an interesting opportunity to try a brief experiment. I trimmed the first 10 from 1.70 to 1.71 in .01 jumps as best I could control them. For my rifle, the maximum length before it felt resistive going into lock was 1.708. With the upper separated from the lower. Cycling the bolt slowly with my fingers. With a lightweight rod up the barrel, inside the empty brass case to feel with, you can quickly develop a sense for what the brass is doing as it seats by the movement and vibration transferred through the rod. During all this fiddling I could feel the extractor dragging in the barrel extension as a result of what I noted in this thread, but that's another discussion.

A buddy's Extractor broke this weekend, Factory ammo, 236 rounds fired total in his rifle.

Out of curiosity - where did your bolt break? Can you post pictures?
