Just a thought! This side crimp is very effective. I'm thinking of taking a factory loaded round and putting a side crimp on it. This might be a way of judging how effective it really is! Or, a way of shearing off some locking lugs! LOL! All opinions are welcome on this one!

I'll repost this in crimp & neck tension.

If you give me the OAL, and brass (Hornady or .284), I'll run the numbers. Did you chrony these?

Quickload predicts 1871 fps at 37,960 psi for the 300 grain XTP over 32 grains of Lil Gun; COAL 2.07 in the hornady brass.

With the 300, my accuracy load was 30.5 grs of LG and a WSR primer. Avg. measured velocity was 1850 fps out of a 16 inch. Group size was less than 1.5 inches. At 32 grains, groups measured around 2 inches. Looks like QL is close on this one.

Yes! For a heavie, I'm staying with the 300gr. XTP Mag. What crimp did you use? Side or taper?

I used the taper crimp. These bullets are longer than the 250's and hold better in the case.

I recently tried some 300 Gr. Noslers. The new .451 HG partition.

Using 30.5 Grs of LG -- Average Velocity -- 1826 fps, ES - 74 fps, SD - 30 fps

Using 31.0 grs of LG -- Average Velocity -- 1853 fps, EX - 26 fps, SD - 10 fps

Using 32.0 grs of LG -- Average Veolcity -- 1883 fps, ES - 27 fps, SD - 11 fps

Results from other 300's using 30.5 grs of LG in the past were .452 diameter. These Noslers are .451.

Accuracy of all the noslers were in the 1 1/2" range (less than or equal to). There was really no difference at 100 yards to make a distinction. Using this bullet, I would opt for 32.0 grs. These loads showed no signs of pressure. 16" barrel, WSR primer and taper crimp.

RUNNING OUT OF PRIMERS!
