Hey Dawg 36 TKO, .223/SS109 ammo is "6" - 308 M855 ammo is 18.2 adjusted for a 20" barrel, using match 168gr and and finally a 375 H&H adjusted for a 20" barrel is 37.3 w/270gr bullet . Hummmm, if you can SAFELY up the speeds on those 230's, just a little, you'll soon surpass an elephant gun..

My next run, I will be starting around 41.5 Gr LilGun and will use the side crimp. I'm just waiting for the Weather to improve.
Gunny just shipped a new A2 prototype stock to me and I also need to sight in my new Nikko Stirling scope so I have several projects in front of me.

The setup. 450 Bushmaster 20". Nikko Stirling scope, Ross Brake, Recoil-less A1 Stock. Chronograph is a Chrony F1 with the remote head and home brew recall switch set approximately ten feet in front of muzzle.
Distance for these tests is 50 yards.

All powder charges were individually hand measured on digital scales with a powder trickler and confirmed on a beam scale. Bullets were seated to Thunk in my chamber. Also all loads were Legendre Side crimped, then Taper Crimped. Now that we have that out of the way, Here we go...

How's the Chrony doing?

Works fine.....considering it spent several hours in the refridgerator.

How are the pressure signs? Did you get a before and after, case expansion numbers? At some point soon now, you'll hit the wall, where the bolt is trying to extract the case, when the case is still sealed in the chamber. Those marks on the case wont be from over-pressure, but as I said, from premature extraction. At 2500fps, I bet you didn't have much trouble did you??

Let's see now, this 1.451MOA group equates to 5.8" at 400yds...Humm, and how big is the kill area of an Elk??

Where T2 is a 308 150gr SPBT @ 2800fps
And T3 is Dawg’s 450b @2500fps

Is there any among us, that would or could suggest that this 308 loading isn’t an already Well Proven, Elk Killer at 400yds???





For all practical purposes they both fly similarly to 400 yds, where in the 308 and its superior BC, starts to pull ahead. BUUTTT, look at how well the 450b stands up to Out-Killing the proven, venerable 308, even at ranges of 400yds to 1000yds..t






Of course you're going to have to play the Wind Game and you'd better know the exact distances, but today these shots, with today's Technology, well, it aint so hard to do any more and now you've got the power to decide any issue, at these ranges. How much better/easier, would killing Elk be, at these ranges, if a Barnes 200/275gr were used, with the Dawgs leed here?..t

The 7/16 Inch Plate has very nice vents in it now.

Looks like ya found a sweet spot!
Beginning to look like the 450B was build with the 230 FMJs in mind.
Cheap and readily available to get the job Done.
