Dawg,

I don't see any real pressure signs on your cases, do you see any indications of the bolt opening too soon? Extractor marks on the inside of the rim, located inside of the extraction groove, is the area to look into..

I ran my finger around the rims and could not feel anything. I'm still trying to find my magnifying glass so that I can take a close look.

Yeah, my eyes started going about two years ago. Now I have the daily routine of trying to keep up with my reading glasses.

Jim in Houston wrote:The MagTech 230 gr FMJ is listed as having a diameter of .451 vs .452 for the Hornady 250 gr and 225 gr FTX. I am assuming that the missing .001 is not significant?

Also re the bullet drop chart, while the BM round and the .308 look pretty much the same out to 400 yds, I am wondering what the actual drop is. Since the vertical scale is 1200 inches (100 feet, if my math is correct), I think there is still a difference of 20" or so at 400 yards, which is not visible on the chart.

Now, to go read up on the LG crimp. Unless someone would like to explain it further here?

Hey Jim, I also found this topic by Hoot detailing the mod on the 45-70 crimp die.

I just hand inspected all 20 rounds and except for some little micro abrasions where the extractor engaged the rim, there were no signs of excessive force, disfigurement, ripping, tearing. The 44.5 and 45.0 grain cases are cleaner than I expected compared to my previous loads below 44.0 grains which showed mild soot.
Once I work up a load for Hornady, the plate will get one more hole. Then it will be used only for handgun and 22 LR. That poor plate.
