what caliber to make me look good?

Postby Stealthshooter » Sun Apr 22, 2012 10:28 am

Hey guys.

Like the title says I'm looking for a low recoil extremely accurate rifle that can put a smile on my face every time I shoot. I also would like it to be able to shoot 600 yards.

What do you suggest?

Hmmm...low recoil and 600 yds might be a tough combination. Heavy bolt gun with one of Gunny's recoil reducers might work. Our gun club high-power range tops out at 600 yds at the moment, and most of the guys I see over there are using 7mm/.280 or 7.62mm/.30 cals. 300 Win Mag is "hot" right now, but I don't think anyone would classify it as low recoil...combo du jour seems to be MacMillan stock, Rem 700 action, and Shilen stainless bull barrel. Jus' my observations....

I was thinking more along the 6br lines. I don't need it to kill anything but paper at 600. Just want something fun to shoot.

.338 lapua or .416 barret. And most important part is really really good optics.

Any one of these should work

Of those, the Grendel is going to be the easiest to get components (brass), and factory ammo for. I'm anxious for my Grendel parts to get here so I can start my build!

I am dying to get my Gretchen out to 100 yards. But very few of my family has stepped up to help me finish my fence project. It's very disappointing.
My neighbor has been out on his range today shooting what sounded like an AK and something else that was mighty loud and deep throated. They were bump-firing something too. Should have drove over there but I'm being lazy today. But I'm glad he's having some fun, after all the big booms I subjected them to yesterday and last week.
