the only difference I see between "Tagging the target" and firing the shot, is that "tagging" may give you multiple tries to get it right without alerting the target, provided the target hangs around long enough. Why not just shoot it the first time you get the sight picture?

Buck Rogers strikes again. Those of us that were around in the 50's ,especially, look around you and see what has become reality. Some pretty wild stuff has come to pass, not to mention what we don't know about...

I worked on this 20+ years ago and had shooting models.
The real deal is, the non-shooter is now an expert.
It does work like BD is suggesting, if you need several tries to get the target tagged, that's ok. then expect the bullet to hit the target, if you have enough on the bullet, A.K.A. 450b, then you can expect the target to die..
